After nearly ten years together, you’ve all likely heard our story plenty of times: we met in Cambridge, fell in love over hazy IPAs and late night ice rink break-ins, built a life on curiosity and mediocre puns, and keep finding ways to grow towards each other when things get rough. Most importantly, we have a dog named Rosie.
So, we thought we’d share a few things you might not know.
We asked each other a few questions… Dave answered for Steph and Steph answered for Dave.
Enjoy!
What’s your favorite picture of the other person?
SFS: Obviously.
What is the most interesting thing about the other that very few people know?
DK: She can and will learn any skill needed to to achieve her goals. When she wanted a great look for her nonprofit, she became an amazingly talented web developer and designer. When she wanted a dog in a highly competitive pandemic, she figured out how to (legally) hack the lottery system. And when she wanted Rosie to be a very good girl who performs a fantastic repertoire of tricks, she became a disciplined dog trainer. There’s nothing she can’t do.
SFS: Dave is incredibly creative. For special occasions, he makes these spunky little construction paper cut-out cards and writes oddball haikus that are equal parts imaginative, charming, and totally quirky. In another life, he would have made a killer Kindergarten teacher.
What’s something that the other one does that drives you crazy (but also you kind of love)?
DK: Steph gets me to say “yes” way more than my gut would otherwise. Should we go to Lebanon? Should I buy those expensive jeans? Burning Man? Turning those no’s to yes’s has given me amazing memories and my favorite pants. I simultaneously fear and feel excitement for our next adventures.
SFS: He will set up the tv, his computer, his ipad, my ipad, his phone, and any other device he can get his paws on and play a different sports game on every screen. Then he’ll make these blood curdling sounds when one of his teams screws up (which is often, because the Mets), and that’s basically how he expresses his emotions.
What gives you confidence that you’ve chosen a good person to be legally bound to?
DK: Whether I want to celebrate a high, vent about a low, seek advice, or just hang out—Steph is my (and a lot of other people’s) go-to person. She’s a limitless source of inspiration and creative ideas. She has a strong moral compass and helps me reorient mine when it strays. I get to live vicariously through the wonderful work she does to make a better world.
SFS: The way he gets super into dance offs with my nieces, and wakes up early to have one-on-one coffee with my mom, and truly believes in the same wild dreams I do, and gets really sad when he thinks Rosie isn’t having a nice time.
